We lucked into a good day for the clinic…gusty East winds precluded flying. Very successful time in the gym with 17 attendees sucessfully repacking. Jamie had a minor mishap during deployment practice when his main hang strap (oops, neglected to hook into the back-up) was somehow hooked incorrectly and he slipped 3 feet to the deck. Bruised elbow and knee were a small price for the lesson – always backup :) Everyone else successfully deployed and jamie cameback strongly on the repack segment. Biggest lesson of the clinic was: avoid situations that might cause structural failure – aerobatics and violent lift ( > 1000 fpm). At the recent Wills Wing seminar at Demo Days in Florida the same message was clear. Chute deployments are rare and those that occur can be avoided with prudent risk management.
